Cyber Insurance & Managed IT: How They Work Together

A suspicious email. A stolen password. A computer suddenly locked by ransomware. A cyber incident can interrupt your business in minutes, and the costs can continue long after your systems are back online.

Cybersecurity insurance can help businesses manage the financial impact of certain incidents. But having a policy is only one part of protecting your business. Strong security practices and dependable IT support matter before, during, and after an attack.

Here’s how cyber insurance and CPS’s managed IT services fit together.

What is cybersecurity insurance?

Cybersecurity insurance, often called cyber insurance or cyber liability insurance, helps cover certain financial losses and expenses resulting from covered cyber incidents. Depending on the policy, coverage may include:

  • Investigating a breach and restoring affected data.
  • Lost income from a covered interruption to business operations.
  • Notifying affected customers and providing credit monitoring.
  • Legal defense and liability costs related to exposed information.

Coverage varies. Deductibles, exclusions, limits, and reporting requirements all affect what a policy will pay. The Federal Trade Commission recommends reviewing both coverage for your own business’s losses and coverage for claims made against your business. Learn more from the FTC.

Why insurance and IT security belong together

Think about the relationship between property insurance and a building’s locks, alarms, and fire protection. Insurance helps address covered losses. Preventive measures help reduce the likelihood and severity of those losses. Cyber insurance and cybersecurity work in much the same way.

A policy cannot stop an employee from clicking a malicious link, install a missing security update, or restore files by itself. Those tasks require technology, planning, and people who know your systems. Insurers may also require specific security measures as a condition of coverage. Be accurate about your security measures when applying, and keep those protections up to date. Learn more from the NAIC.

How our Managed IT services fit in

At Creative Programs and Systems (CPS), our role as your IT partner is to help you understand and manage the technology side of protecting your business. A cyber insurance conversation is an opportunity to review your current safeguards, identify gaps, and decide what needs attention. That review should address several key areas:

Account security: Multifactor authentication adds another layer of protection beyond a password. Reviewing user access also helps ensure employees have access appropriate to their roles.

Software updates: Keeping operating systems, applications, and security tools current helps close vulnerabilities attackers could exploit.

Employee awareness: Employees need to recognize suspicious emails, unexpected requests, and other warning signs, and know how to report them. These are among the core practices highlighted in CISA’s small business cybersecurity resources.

Backups and recovery: A backup is valuable only if it can be used when needed. Reviewing backup protection and testing restoration helps a business prepare for recovery.

Incident planning: Knowing whom to contact and what to do first can make a difficult situation easier to manage. CISA recommends both protected backups and preparation for responding to ransomware incidents. Read CISA’s ransomware guidance.

Applying for or renewing cyber insurance?

Bring your IT provider into the conversation early. An insurance application may ask about multifactor authentication, backups, security tools, remote access, and other technical details. Guessing, or assuming a feature is enabled everywhere, can create problems.

Reviewing those questions with CPS helps connect the application to what is actually in place. Your insurance agent or broker can then explain how those answers relate to eligibility, policy terms, and coverage. Strong IT practices do not guarantee an approved application, lower premiums, or payment of a claim. They do help build a more informed conversation about your business’s security.

What happens if an incident occurs?

Your IT team and insurance provider have different, connected roles. The IT response focuses on understanding the incident, limiting its spread, and recovering systems. Your insurer determines how the policy applies and may direct you to approved response specialists.

That makes coordination essential. Your response plan should include your insurer’s reporting instructions, required contacts, and any approval requirements for outside services or expenses.

Protect your business before you need your policy

Cyber insurance can help with covered financial losses. Managed IT helps maintain the systems and safeguards your business relies on every day. Together, they support a more complete approach to managing cyber risk.

*Coverage questions should be reviewed with your licensed insurance agent or broker. CPS provides IT services; coverage and claim decisions are determined by your insurer and policy terms.

Applying for cyber insurance or reviewing your current protection? Contact CPS to discuss your IT security, identify gaps, and plan your next steps.

One Technology Partner, Fewer Headaches: The Benefits of Integrated Technology Solutions

Today’s businesses rely on technology for nearly every aspect of their operations—from software and website development and digital marketing services to IT systems, cybersecurity, backups, troubleshooting, and more. But when multiple providers handle these services, keeping everything connected can get complicated.

Working with one technology partner can simplify the process, improve communication, and help ensure your systems work together—not against each other.

What Are Integrated Technology Solutions?

Integrated technology solutions connect the digital technologies and services your business relies on, helping them work together efficiently and support your overall business goals. Rather than managing software, data, and IT separately, an integrated approach allows these technologies to communicate and share information.

For example, consider e-commerce. An online store can connect its website to its inventory system, payment processor, and customer database through integrations that allow information to flow automatically. When a customer places an order, the website sends the order details to the payment processor, updates inventory, and records the customer and purchase information in the database. This reduces manual data entry, minimizes errors, and helps keep business operations running smoothly.

Another example is how IT and cybersecurity systems can work together to protect a business. Security software can monitor network activity and identify potential threats, while automated backups help safeguard important business data. IT systems can also manage employee access, ensuring staff have the appropriate permissions to access the information and applications they need. When these technologies work together, businesses can strengthen security, safeguard critical data, and respond more efficiently when issues arise.

The Benefits of One Technology Partner:

Better Communication – When multiple technology providers are involved, it can be difficult to determine who is responsible for what or who to contact when an issue arises. With one technology partner, you have a central point of contact and a team that understands your technology as a whole. This simplifies communication, reduces confusion, and helps ensure issues are addressed more efficiently.

Systems That Work Together – One of the biggest advantages of technology is its ability to collect, organize, and share data—but only when systems are set up and managed effectively. An integrated approach can eliminate disconnected systems, reduce duplicate data entry, and streamline inefficient processes. Custom software, websites, and other business systems can be designed to work together, allowing information to flow seamlessly and giving your business the tools it needs to operate more efficiently.

Improved Efficiency -The right solutions should make your job easier—not create more work. Integrated systems can automate repetitive tasks, streamline workflows, and reduce the time employees spend moving information between applications. This allows your team to focus less on administrative tasks and more on serving customers and growing the business.

Stronger Security and Backups - Apply cybersecurity and data protection across your entire IT environment. Taking a comprehensive approach to your IT infrastructure, software, and data makes it easier to identify potential vulnerabilities, strengthen security measures, and establish reliable backup strategies. This helps protect critical information and gives your business greater peace of mind.

Technology Shouldn't Create More Headaches

As your business grows, your systems and technology needs will evolve. Working with one experienced provider makes it easier to plan for future changes, upgrades, and new solutions while keeping your systems connected, secure, and running smoothly. At Creative Programs and Systems, we provide custom software, websites, digital marketing, and IT solutions tailored to your business. What Is Domain Hijacking? How to Protect Your Business Website

Your website's domain name is one of your business's most valuable digital assets. It's how customers find your website, recognize your brand, and communicate with your business. If a cybercriminal gains control of your domain, the consequences can be severe, ranging from website outages and email disruptions to lost revenue and damaged customer trust.

Domain hijacking is a growing cybersecurity threat that affects businesses of all sizes. Understanding how it happens and taking proactive steps to secure your domain can help prevent costly downtime and protect your online presence.

What Is Domain Hijacking?

Domain hijacking occurs when an unauthorized individual gains control of a domain name without the owner's permission. This typically happens when an attacker compromises the domain registrar account, gains access to the associated email account, or tricks the owner through phishing or social engineering.

Once an attacker controls your domain, they can modify critical settings, transfer ownership to another registrar, redirect visitors to fraudulent websites, disable your business email, or even hold the domain for ransom. Common motivations for domain hijacking include:

  • Redirecting website traffic to malicious or competing websites
  • Sending fraudulent emails that appear to come from your business
  • Stealing sensitive customer information
  • Damaging your company's reputation
  • Selling the domain for financial gain

Domain Hijacking vs. DNS Hijacking vs. Domain Spoofing

Although these terms are often confused, they describe different cybersecurity threats:

  • Domain Hijacking: Attackers take control of your domain by gaining access to your registrar account or transferring ownership without your permission.
  • DNS Hijacking: Attackers modify your domain's DNS settings, redirecting your website or email to fraudulent locations while you still own the domain.
  • Domain Spoofing: Attackers create fake domains or websites that closely resemble yours to trick customers into sharing sensitive information or responding to phishing emails. Think of it as a counterfeit version of your business designed to deceive visitors.

Understanding these differences is an important first step in protecting your business from domain-related cyber threats. The good news is that with proper security measures, including strong passwords, multi-factor authentication (MFA), registrar account protection, and ongoing monitoring, you can significantly reduce your risk of becoming a victim.

If you need help protecting your business from cyber threats or regaining control of a compromised website or domain, contact Creative Programs & Systems. Our experienced team can help secure your online presence and get you back on track quickly.

Dedicated Servers: Powering Business Performance and Security

As businesses continue to grow and rely more heavily on technology, dependable performance and robust data security are more critical than ever. One of the best ways to strengthen your company’s IT infrastructure is with a dedicated server.

What is a Dedicated Server?

A dedicated server is a physical server exclusively reserved for a single business or organization. Unlike shared hosting, where multiple websites and businesses use the same server resources, a dedicated server provides complete access to all processing power, memory, bandwidth, and storage. This gives your company maximum performance, enhanced security, and greater control over its hosting environment.

How Can a Dedicated Server Benefit My Business?

Dedicated servers offer growing businesses several key advantages, starting with improved performance. Because your resources are not shared with other users, your website, applications, and databases run faster and more efficiently. This is especially valuable for businesses with high website traffic, e-commerce platforms, customer portals, or resource-intensive applications.

Security is another major benefit. Since your data is isolated from other users, dedicated servers provide a higher level of protection for sensitive customer information, financial transactions, and confidential business data.

Dedicated servers also improve reliability and uptime. With full control over the server environment, businesses experience fewer performance issues caused by neighboring websites or unexpected traffic spikes, creating a more stable experience for both employees and customers.

Another important advantage is customization and scalability. Dedicated servers allow businesses to configure software, operating systems, security settings, and hardware based on their exact needs, while making it easier to scale resources as the company grows.

Why Dedicated Servers Are Worth the Investment

While dedicated servers typically cost more than shared hosting solutions, the added performance, security, reliability, and flexibility often make them a smart long-term investment for larger or more complex businesses. Companies that rely heavily on their websites, applications, customer portals, or internal systems benefit from having exclusive access to server resources without the limitations or risks associated with shared environments.

For businesses where performance and reliability directly impact productivity, customer experience, and revenue, a dedicated server can provide the stability and confidence needed to operate efficiently and securely.

CPS helps businesses choose, configure, and support reliable server solutions built for long-term growth and performance. Schedule a consultation today!

Common IT Bottlenecks That Slow Down Your Business (and How to Fix Them)

Technology is meant to keep your business moving, but when systems aren’t properly managed, they often become the very thing holding you back. Many organizations experience slowdowns not because of major failures but because of small, ongoing IT bottlenecks that compound over time.

Understanding where these inefficiencies occur is the first step toward improving performance, productivity, and overall business operations.

1. Outdated Hardware and Software

Aging computers, servers, and unsupported software can significantly reduce speed and reliability. Slow load times, frequent crashes, and compatibility issues disrupt daily workflows and frustrate employees. Solution: Regularly evaluate and upgrade your technology stack. Ensure your systems stay current, secure, and optimized for performance.

2. Poor Network Performance

Slow or unreliable internet and internal networks can cripple communication, file sharing, and cloud-based applications. This is especially critical for businesses relying on VoIP systems or remote access. Solution: Conduct routine network assessments to identify bandwidth limitations, outdated equipment, or configuration issues. Proactive monitoring can prevent slowdowns before they impact operations.

3. Lack of Proactive IT Maintenance

Many businesses operate in a reactive “break-fix” model, addressing problems only after they occur. This leads to repeated disruptions and unnecessary downtime. Solution: Implement proactive monitoring and maintenance. Managed IT providers like CPS identify and resolve issues early, often before users are even aware of a problem.

4. Inefficient User Access and Permissions

When employees don’t have proper access, or have too much, productivity suffers. Time is wasted requesting permissions or navigating systems that aren’t tailored to their roles. Solution: Streamline access controls with role-based permissions and centralized user management to ensure employees have exactly what they need to work efficiently.

5. Unreliable Data Backup and Recovery Systems

Slow or inconsistent backup systems can delay recovery during data loss events, bringing operations to a halt. Solution: Establish a reliable, automated backup and disaster recovery plan. Fast recovery times are critical to minimizing downtime and protecting business continuity.

6. Overloaded or Misconfigured Systems

Servers and applications that aren’t properly configured, or are pushed beyond their capacity, can cause lag, errors, and system crashes. Solution: Optimize system configurations and ensure infrastructure is properly scaled to meet your business demands.

7. Too Many Disconnected Tools and Platforms

Using multiple systems that don’t integrate well creates inefficiencies, duplicate work, and communication gaps between teams. Solution: Consolidate platforms where possible and implement integrations that streamline workflows and data sharing across your organization.

8. Lack of IT Strategy

Without a clear IT roadmap, businesses often make reactive decisions that lead to inconsistent systems and wasted resources. Solution: Develop a long-term IT strategy aligned with your business goals. A managed IT partner like CPS can help plan for growth, scalability, and future technology needs.

The Cost of IT Inefficiencies

Even small IT inefficiencies can add up to significant productivity loss over time. Employees spend more time troubleshooting, waiting on systems, or working around issues instead of focusing on core business tasks.

By identifying and addressing these bottlenecks, businesses can:

  • Improve operational efficiency
  • Reduce downtime
  • Enhance employee productivity
  • Strengthen security and reliability

How CPS Helps Eliminate IT Bottlenecks

ChatGPT Introduces Ads for U.S. Free Users

OpenAI has begun testing advertisements within ChatGPT for users in the United States, marking the first time ads have appeared on the platform. The rollout applies to Free tier users and the new lower-cost ChatGPT Go plan, while Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise subscriptions remain ad-free.

The company describes the initiative as an early-stage experiment intended to support broader access to advanced AI tools. Advertising revenue will help fund the infrastructure and development required to operate ChatGPT at scale while maintaining low- or no-cost entry options.

How Ads Will Work

Ads will be clearly labeled as sponsored content and visually separated from chatbot responses. OpenAI states that advertisements will not influence generated answers and that user conversations will not be shared with advertisers.

Users will have control over personalization settings and may opt out of ads in exchange for reduced free message limits. Ads will align with the general topic of a conversation but will not appear in sensitive contexts such as health or political discussions. OpenAI describes the rollout as a “test-and-learn” phase, with user feedback shaping future refinements.

Industry Context

The introduction of ads reflects mounting pressure on AI companies to establish sustainable revenue models amid rapid industry expansion. OpenAI maintains that advertising will subsidize free and lower-cost access while preserving the integrity of the user experience. Some competitors, including Anthropic, have publicly committed to remaining ad-free, underscoring a growing strategic divide within the conversational AI market.

Bing AI Pioneers Sponsored Ads

AI-powered advertising in conversational search is not new. Microsoft’s Bing AI, now integrated into Microsoft Copilot and Bing search, already includes clearly labeled sponsored placements within AI-generated results. These ads appear directly in conversational responses, combining traditional paid search with generative AI. This approach shows how AI platforms can generate revenue while maintaining strong user engagement.

CPS Success with AI Search Ads

CPS leverages Microsoft’s AI-powered advertising platform to support digital marketing strategies across select industries. By integrating paid search into AI-enhanced search environments, we help clients capture high-intent traffic at the moment of discovery—driving measurable gains in visibility, lead generation, and conversions, especially in competitive local service markets.

Meanwhile, Meta continues expanding AI-driven ad automation across its platforms, reflecting a broader shift in how advertising is created and delivered. As AI-powered advertising becomes more mainstream, businesses that adapt early will be better positioned to gain visibility in emerging conversational search environments.

Improving Cognitive Training Apps for Older Adults: What’s Working & What Must Come Next

Cognitive training apps continue to gain traction among older adults seeking to maintain or improve cognitive function. While many available tools show promise, recent evaluations highlight an important reality: current apps designed for older adults with mild cognitive impairment offer moderate overall quality and significant variability in effectiveness, usability, and evidence-based support. Understanding where these apps succeed, and where they need to evolve is essential for shaping the next generation of digital cognitive health tools.

Current State of Cognitive Training Apps

Most apps today offer structured exercises that target memory, attention, processing speed, and problem-solving. Though users appreciate the accessibility and convenience of daily digital training, comprehensive reviews reveal notable inconsistencies:

  • Moderate app quality across the market
  • Wide variability in usability, design, and scientific accuracy
  • Stronger performance in basic exercise delivery
  • Weak performance in engagement, education, and evidence-based content

These findings suggest that while the foundation is in place, much more can be done to make cognitive training tools more effective, user-friendly, and clinically meaningful.

Key Areas That Need Improvement

1. Stronger Engagement Features

Older adults, especially those with cognitive impairment, need interaction, motivation, and a sense of connection to stay engaged. Effective cognitive training depends on consistent use, yet many apps fall short because they lack:

  • Personalization of difficulty levels
  • Adaptive pacing
  • Interactive prompts, feedback, and rewards
  • Social or community-based engagement options

2. Personalized Cognitive Support

Most apps still use one-size-fits-all training. Personalization increases relevance and boosts long-term use. Older adults benefit from training tailored to their individual abilities and limitations. To better support cognitive health:

  • Exercises should adapt to the user’s performance trends
  • Recommendations should reflect the user’s goals, limitations, and strengths
  • The interface should accommodate sensory and motor needs common in older adults

3. Better Integration of Health Care Expertise

Few apps are guided by clinicians, neuroscientists, or geriatric specialists. Aligning development with evidence-based standards is essential to ensure training is safe, appropriate, and scientifically sound. To meet these guidelines, future apps should:

  • Incorporate validated cognitive assessment tools
  • Provide clear, research-based information
  • Enable optional collaboration with caregivers or clinicians
  • Offer data outputs that support care planning and monitoring

Future Development for Next-Generation Cognitive Training Apps

By moving beyond simple “brain games,” developers should build tools that better support cognitive health in aging adults. To progress ahead of today’s moderate-quality apps, future solutions should consider including:

  • Holistic wellness recommendations, incorporating coaching tips and community features
  • AI-driven personalization with real-time difficulty adjustments
  • Integration with wearable devices to track sleep, activity, and wellness for a more complete view of cognitive health
  • Cognitive wellness plans that blend digital exercises with lifestyle guidance such as nutrition, movement, and social engagement
  • Voice-assisted navigation to improve accessibility
  • Family or caregiver dashboards for shared monitoring
  • Regular clinical advisory board involvement to keep content current and evidence-based

Moving Toward a More Supportive Digital Future

Creative Programs and Systems monitors emerging technology to understand how digital tools can better support the population. Cognitive training apps show real potential for adults experiencing memory challenges, but progress is needed to strengthen engagement, deepen personalization, and align development with evidence-based guidance. With thoughtful innovation, these tools can evolve from basic exercises into comprehensive systems that help older adults maintain cognitive health throughout life. CPS remains committed to promoting more effective, accessible, and clinically grounded digital solutions for the well-being of all.

Why RAM and Storage Costs Are Skyrocketing

The rapid expansion of artificial intelligence is driving an unprecedented surge in global demand for computer memory, causing steep price hikes for RAM, SSDs, and other storage components. Major AI developers—including OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon—are buying massive quantities of high-end memory for their data centers, often outbidding consumer manufacturers. As a result, the cost of everyday electronics is climbing across the board.

Over just a few weeks, DDR5 RAM prices have doubled in some cases, with premium kits jumping more than 100%. Retailers are already scrambling to keep up with the volatility. Some stores have even removed fixed price tags, switching to spot pricing because memory costs change so rapidly.

This shortage affects more than PC upgrades. Laptops, TVs, gaming consoles, and handheld devices all rely on the same memory manufacturers—primarily Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron, which control roughly 90% of the market. As existing inventory runs out, consumers can expect higher prices for new devices and fewer deals on components. Even GPUs may rise in cost again as video memory becomes more expensive.

Console makers are feeling the pressure, too. Microsoft has already raised Xbox prices twice in 2025, with more increases possible. Sony reportedly stockpiled RAM early, but that buffer won’t last forever. The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 may also face higher storage costs due to rising microSD prices.

Data Centers Are Outbidding Consumer Tech

Analysts predict memory and flash storage prices will continue climbing into 2026 unless production expands or AI companies reduce consumption. For now, the demand from AI data centers is overpowering supply, and consumers are left footing the bill as nearly every gadget becomes more expensive to make—and to buy.

Analysts predict that memory and flash storage prices will continue climbing into 2026 unless production increases or AI companies curb consumption. Reports from Reuters and TrendForce indicate that major NAND manufacturers are “taking turns raising prices,” creating a cascading effect throughout the market. Although the memory sector is expected to grow rapidly, that growth won’t be enough to ease demand. Additionally, the Korean newspaper Chosun Biz reports that Samsung and SK Hynix reduced flash supply in late 2025, further tightening the market. Samsung is also considering additional price hikes of 20% to 30%, signaling more volatility ahead.

Powering Discovery: U.S. Invests $1B in AMD Supercomputers

The U.S. Department of Energy and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) have announced a $1 billion partnership to build two next-generation supercomputers, named Lux and Discovery, at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee. The systems are designed to accelerate research in nuclear energy, national security, and cancer treatment.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the new systems will “supercharge” innovation in nuclear and fusion energy, drug development, and defense technologies by providing unprecedented computational power. The Lux system, co-developed with AMD, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Oracle Cloud, and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, will launch within six months and deliver roughly three times the AI capacity of current U.S. supercomputers.

Powered by AMD’s new MI355X AI chips, Lux marks the fastest large-scale supercomputer deployment in U.S. history. The second system, Discovery, featuring AMD’s upcoming MI430 chips, is expected to be available in 2029 and will further expand America’s high-performance computing and AI capabilities.

Supercomputers handle calculations millions to billions of times faster than standard laptops by connecting thousands of processors that work simultaneously—a technique called parallel processing. Learn more about how supercomputers operate here.

Both systems will support joint public-private research, with the DOE hosting the machines and partners sharing access. Officials say this collaboration signals the start of a new era of U.S. investment in supercomputing infrastructure to accelerate scientific discovery and maintain global competitiveness in AI and energy innovation.

The U.S. hosts over 170 supercomputers, including five of the world’s ten most powerful. China and Germany follow in second and third place for total systems (view breakdown).

Google reCAPTCHA Is Moving to Google Cloud – What You Need to Know

Google is phasing out reCAPTCHA Classic and moving all users to reCAPTCHA Enterprise under the Google Cloud platform by the end of 2025.

Why the Change?

Google is making this update to strengthen online security as internet threats evolve. The familiar checkbox or image puzzle asking, “Are you a robot?” is part of Google’s reCAPTCHA system designed to keep spam and fraud off the web.

The new version uses smarter algorithms to analyze interactions and detect modern threats—often allowing legitimate users to pass without completing those “select all crosswalks” challenges.

Google is consolidating all reCAPTCHA services within its Cloud platform for better management, faster updates, and more consistent, high-quality protection. The goal is a smoother user experience with stronger, behind-the-scenes security and fewer interruptions.

How Does This Affect My Website and Business?

If your website currently uses reCAPTCHA, you may start seeing prompts to “migrate your key.” This process requires creating a Google Cloud account, adding billing information, and accepting new terms of service.

While Google promises that the first 10,000 assessments per month will remain free, additional usage will incur charges. An assessment is a single verification event—each time reCAPTCHA checks whether a user is human or a bot (for example, a contact form submission, checkout process, or login attempt).

By the end of 2025, Google will automatically migrate all remaining Classic reCAPTCHA keys to the Google Cloud platform. You don’t need to update your site code—your existing v2 or v3 keys will continue to work after migration, even if you don’t immediately accept the new project invitation. The main point: reCAPTCHA will no longer be fully free once it moves to Google Cloud.

How CPS Can Help

At Creative Programs and Systems (CPS), we’ve already seen some client keys automatically ported to our internal Google Cloud project—but paying for every client’s CAPTCHA usage isn’t sustainable. The best long-term solution is for each client to have their own Google Cloud account (with billing set up) or to switch to an alternative.

We’re currently testing hCaptcha, a privacy-focused, free alternative that supports up to 100,000 requests per month. It’s already live on several CPS-managed sites and performing well.

If your website still uses the Classic version of Google reCAPTCHA, now is the time to start planning for migration or exploring replacement options. CPS can help assess your current CAPTCHA setup, guide you through the migration process, or install a more cost-effective alternative.
